Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall Set to Divorce
Rupert Murdoch is one of the biggest modern-day names in the media industry, and his wealth reaches into the billions. For years, it’s seemed like he’s had it all, but now, his marriage to former model Jerry Hall appears to be ending after just six short years.
According to recent reports, Murdoch is currently 91 years old. He’s the executive chairman of NewsCorp, which means he owns famous media channels like Fox News and the Wall Street Journal. He married Jerry Hall back in 2016. On July 1st, Hall filed a divorce petition, which she has now asked the court to dismiss without prejudice.
It’s uncertain whether Murdoch and Jerry Hall have decided to settle outside of court. Rather, Hall has claimed to be “unaware” of the actual extent of all of Murdoch’s debts, assets, and more. Hall has asked for the former petition to be dismissed possibly with the intent to amend it with new information.
This amendment will likely be significant. In the short six year marriage, Murdoch sold his 21st Century Fox empire for a whopping $71.3 billion. This will be Murdoch’s fourth divorce.
Divorce Law in New York
Did you know that where you reside and ultimately where you get your divorce could have a huge impact on the outcome? Laws vary in different states. New York state, though, is often seen as one of the best states to get a divorce, and there are several reasons why. For one, there are several grounds for divorce, which opens up plenty of room for couples to seek a divorce quickly. These include:
• Cruel and inhuman treatment
• Abandonment
• Imprisonment
• Irretrievable breakdown
• Adultery
• Judgement of Separation
• Separation Agreement
Another reason why New York is a good place to get a divorce is because marital property is equitably divided during a divorce. This means that property is not always equally split. Instead, courts consider a wide range of factors to ensure that each party is on comparable footing after the split. Debts, for instance, won’t be unfairly put onto the shoulders of the spouse that earns less of an income. The courts will consider each spouse’s future earning potential, the tax consequences, and any custodial parent’s needs to help support any children of the marriage.
