Getting Over A Marriage Break Up – Yes You Can!

an uncharted territory

As a single divorced woman I found getting over a marriage break up was my biggest challenge.
When a long-term, committed relationship ends it may turn your whole world upside down. It can
trigger all kinds of painful and unsettling emotions.

The breaking up of a marriage can catapult you into an uncharted territory. Everything of what you thought you knew about your life is disrupted. Every aspect has changed form your routine and responsibilities to your relations with extended family and friends. Even your identity seems in question.

With the dissolution of your nuptial vows comes uncertainty about the future. What will life be like without your partner? Will you find someone else? Will you end up alone? These unknowns often seem worse than an unhappy relationship.

Recovering from a broken bond with a spouse is difficult at best. Regardless, it’s imperative to remind yourself that you can and will move on. However, it won’t happen overnight, so give yourself some time to heal.

Nevertheless, there are things you can do to get through this complex phase in your life. Yes, even in the midst of the sadness and stress of a divorce. At this point in time, the opportunity arises to learn from the experience and grow into a stronger, wiser more confident person.

Don’t resist your feelings – It’s natural to go through the up’s and down’s, and conflicting emotions. You may feel anger, resentment, sadness, relief, fear, and confusion all at the same time. Do not think you are going crazy. Just acknowledge that this is part of the healing process after splitting up with your spouse.

Talk about what you’re feeling – You may find it difficult to talk about your feelings even with friends and family. Even so, you need to challenge yourself to speak your truth of what is going on for you. This is a process that will help you feel less alone with your pain.

Remember that moving on is the end goal – Expressing your feelings will actually free you from negative thinking and guilt. Getting lost in hurtful feelings like blame, anger and resentment will steal your energy and stop you from getting on with your life as a single woman.

Remind yourself that you have a future. Create a vision of this next chapter in your life. Replace all you old hopes and dreams that you had with your partner with new ones. Be encouraged by the fact that a great adventure lies ahead of you as you willingly release the past. Enter this brave new world with your head held high ready to take on life. You can do it!
